  • Interesting episode, I enjoy listening to your camping trials and tribulations. I’ve owned a trailer for like 4 years and I feel like I’m just finally getting to the point where I don’t tear it up every time I take it out.

The one tilting thing is the talk about monthly payments. You are a sharp guy, business owner. Monthly payments talk is how used car salesmen hook the financially illiterate. The only thing that matter is the principal and interest. If I’m looking to buy a $50k trailer and the guy asks me how much I can afford monthly, I’ll tell him $10k if he’ll sell it to me for $30k. All they are trying to do is get you to spend more money.

    • Tom, it definitely wasn’t a matter of the monthly payment. And, I agree about the car salesman talk. I was actually prepared to pay cash for the trailer, also figured out a pretty steep depreciation when I rolled it off the lot. The interest rate was low enough that I preferred to keep my money invested and make the monthly payments.
