My sentiments exactly regarding Amtrak – poor service, less than co-operative coach and dining car attendants, and no real concern for the passenger. However, contrast this with VIA’s The Canadian. My son and I have recently completed a 4 day trip from Vancouver BC to Toronto ON on VIA (Canadian National Railways) train #2 – down comforters in the Pullman-style sleeping cabins, dome cars for everyone, linen and china for dining car service, 3 wonderful, well prepared and presented meals a day (Alberta beef tenderloin, prime rib, lamb, veal, salmon, and halibut, VIA on-board personnel who care for the passengers with excellent service, oh I didn’t mention the incredible beauty of Canadian scenery, and on and on.
