  • It sounds like at least one of you are using a diesel pickup for a tow vehicle, If you fuel up at a truck stop they have big wide lanes, easy to get in and out and the fuel is fresh. At the pump there is a good air station (usually both sides) with at least 120 psi, a long chuck to make it easy to fill dual wheels. Also there is a water hose, and a long stick window bug brush and squeegee. Pilot/ Flying J have a good rewards program, and FREE RV dump station if you need to empty the corn hose. Good place to bunk down if you need to sleep (my second choice with Walmart being the fav); just back into one of the big rig spaces on the perimeter. The travel stores have a lot of food and supplies along with truck and RV things, lamps, bulbs, wiring misc, nice air gauges and tire care products etc.

    • Steven, Richard does have a Diesel. I do not. I had no idea those gas lanes had long chucks and a free dump station. That free dump station is pretty key! Thanks for the tip.

  • Y’all are a treat to listen to. I was cautiously optimistic about getting an RV in the next year or two when I get sick of tent camping and the limits thereof…. and now I am on the fence haha! I hate being cheek by jowl with other campers, so I see that as my biggest worry about RVing. We go to Texas State Parks as of now and they have good websites that give an idea of what site spacing looks like. But you never know until you get there what the tree cover is like (even with pictures) and even with the best spacing all it takes is one bad neighbor to make things rough. Pretty much like anything in life! Thanks for the food for thought. I am not in a hurry so will keep doing my research. For now a tri-fold 4″ memory foam mattress and a tent are still how we are going to roll.

    • Lara, tree cover is so key for campsites. We had one this summer where we absolutely fried. Not a single tree anywhere in site. We learned that lesson the hard way. I now understand why site selection is so important!
